Nigerians Have The Right To Search Policemen - NPF

Police officers can be searched by Nigerians according to information released by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba. Police PRO, Frank Mba The Nigeria Police Force says Nigerians have the right to search its men in select circumstances, a report by Punch has revealed. The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said this in a statement on Monday titled, ‘(Part 2) Tips For Safe And Cordial Conduct During An Arrest.’ The Police said if an officer is about to search a citizen or a property, that citizen has the right to first search the policeman in order to ensure that no evidence is planted. According to the NPF, Nigerians also have the right to demand to know the reason for their arrest whenever an arrest is about to be made. The Force spokesman further stated that in some instances, Nigerians have the right to demand that an arrest warrant is presented before allowing themselves to be apprehended. 15-Year-Old Boy From Imo Emerges Best Student In 2019 UTME, But May Lose Admission Over Age

 A 15-year-old boy, Ekele Franklin, from Imo has emerged the overall best candidate in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME), conducted between April 11 and April 15.   Franklin, who made University of Lagos his first choice, scored 347 and may not be admitted because of his age.   Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), disclosed this at a news conference to announce the release of the results in Abuja on Saturday.   Emmanuel Chidebube, a 16-year-old boy from Abia came second with a score of 346, while Isaac Olamide, a 17-year-old from Osun came third with 345.   In all 2,906 candidates scored over 300 as against 4,683 in 2018.   Statistics   According to Mr Oloyede, 57,579 candidates scored between 250 and 299 as against 64,120 in the 2018 results.   Mr Oloyede said 366,757 candidates also scored between 200 and 249, which is a significant improvement f...

Despite losing lots of money to MMM, Nigerians have now fallen for yet another ponzi scheme called Loom.  Barely a few years after Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox (MMM), a popular ponzi scheme, crashed in Nigeria, “Loom”, a similar money-making scheme, is fast catching up among Nigerians. “Loom Money Nigeria” is a peer-to-peer pyramid scheme that follows the same pattern as the collapsed MMM. Organisers of the ponzi scheme have asked people to invest as low as N1000 or N13,000 and get as much as eight times the value of the investment before 48 hours. A High Court in Benin on Thursday, sentenced a housewife Eniobong Isonguyo and her pastor lover, Udoka Ukachukwu, to death for the murder of her husband, Engr. Victor Gabriel Isonguyo, a staff of Nigerian National Petroleum Company NNPC, Benin, Edo State in 2013. During the trial, the prosecuting counsel told Court, that the murder of the deceased was carried out by the convicts so as to cover up the pregnancy accusation by the deceased while he was away. “The deceased’s wife told the pastor to wait on the route of her husband to work and ask him for a ride. The plan paid off as the man eventually stopped and gave the pastor a ride along sapele road Benin. Facebook image   It has been reported that there was a fire outbreak on Sunday at a power transmission substation in Apo, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory.    According to Punch Metro, it was learnt that the fire started at about 1.30pm from a transformer in the substation and persisted for some hours.   The Transmission Company of Nigeria confirmed the incident and stated that one of the 45MVA 132/33kV power transformers in the substation was involved.   It said the burnt transformer was part of those that feed the 33kV feeders of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.   The fire was put off by the combined efforts of the federal, FCT and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation fire service.    “It is, however, still early for TCN to...

World Heath Organization Releases Guidelines For Parents Who Have Children Under 5 Years

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued guidelines on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep for children under 5 years of age. Notable in the guidelines, is the amount of screen time toddlers should get, which the UN agency said should not be more than one hour for those under 5 and none at all for those under 1. The guidelines are to address the increasing amount of sedentary behaviour in the general population, WHO said, adding that physical inactivity can cause death, and is a contributor to the rise of obesity. The primary audiences for these guidelines are policy makers in ministries of health, education and /or social welfare, NGOs, community or family nurses or doctors, paediatricians or occupational therapists, WHO said. WHO’s guidelines also add that infants less than one year should spend at least half an hour every day on their stomachs and toddlers should get at least three hours of physical activity every day. 21 killed as heavy storm sweeps South Africa

No fewer than 21 people have been killed as heavy storms swept parts of South Africa over night, authorities said on Tuesday. The deaths were reported in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province where heavy storms battered various parts of the province on Monday night, the provincial department of cooperative governance and traditional affairs said in a statement, NAN reports. “Last night, the weather conditions worsened significantly across KZN and the heavy rain culminated in various parts of the province, claiming at least 21 lives and 32 patients in and around Durban,’’ the statement said. Rescue teams have been responding to the incessant rain that has wreaked untold damage on the communities, said the statement. The toll from a string of deadly suicide bomb attacks in Sri Lanka has risen to 310, with several people dying of their injuries overnight, a police spokesman said on Tuesday. Around 500 people were wounded in the blasts, Ruwan Gunasekera said in a statement. He added that 40 people were now under arrest in connection with the attacks, which Sri Lanka’s government has blamed on a previously little-known local Islamist group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath. The first mass burial for the victims of Easter Sunday bombings took place in Colombo. Mourners and relatives of the victims brought flowers to the memorial service and prayed with the clergy as coffins were being carried in and out of the church. A string of blasts ripped through high-end hotels and churches holding Easter services in Sri Lanka on Sunday, killing at least 156 people, including 35 foreigners. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned the attacks as “cowardly” and said the government was working to “contain the situation”. Images circulating on social media and local news stations showed extensive damage at one of three churches targeted in the near-simultaneous blasts on Sunday morning. Much of the church roof was blown out in the explosion, with roof tiles and splintered wood littering the floor and pools of blood in between wounded worshippers. Easter Tragedy: 13 Dead As S. African Church Collapses During Service

Emergency services said that 29 people were rushed to hospital after the collapse in the coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal. Local officials have blamed the tragedy on heavy rainfall in the area around eMpangeni on Thursday night. Most of the victims were reportedly women sleeping in the church. An 11-year-old girl is thought to be among them. The wall at the front of the Pentecostal Holiness Church collapsed at the start of what had been planned as a weekend-long service to commemorate the Christian festival of Easter.
